Cigar Notes (“the app”) is a personal cigar journal with optional social features, made by Morton Builds (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the app collects, how it’s used, and the choices you have. Questions: jon@mortonbuilds.com.
Your cigar entries, reviews, ratings, photos, smoking spots, and settings are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to us unless you specifically choose to share something (see “Social features” below). You can export all of your data to a file you control at any time.
The app uses your camera in two ways, only when you ask it to: (1) to scan a cigar band so it can read the text and suggest a match, and (2) to scan a buddy’s QR code to add them. Band-scan images are processed on your device and are not uploaded or stored by us.
The app may use your approximate location to show local weather on your journal, and—only if you turn it on—to tag or share the location of a smoking spot. You can decline location access and the app still works.
If you create a profile, we store your username, optional display name, your buddy connections, and any reviews or spots you choose to make public. This information is kept on our backend provider so buddies on other devices can connect with you. Anything you keep private is never uploaded. Content you mark public can be seen by your buddies.
We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. We rely on a small number of service providers to run the app: a backend/database host (for the social features) and Apple (for Sign in with Apple, if you use it). They process data only to provide their service.
Because buddies can see public posts, the app lets you report and block other users. We act on reports of objectionable content, typically within 24 hours, and may remove content or accounts that break our Terms.
Cigar Notes is intended for adults of legal smoking age and is rated 17+. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
We may update this policy; the “last updated” date above will change. Significant changes will be noted in the app.
