Coffee Notes

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 21, 2026

Coffee Notes (“the app”) is a personal coffee journal with optional social features, made by Morton Builds (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the app collects, how it’s used, and the choices you have. Questions: jon@mortonbuilds.com.

Your journal

Your coffees, brews, ratings, tasting notes, mugs, photos, and settings are stored on your device. Coffee Notes doesn’t require an account, and your journal is not uploaded to us. You can edit or delete any bag, brew, or mug at any time, right in the app.

Camera & photos

The app uses your camera and photo library only when you ask it to: to add a photo of a coffee bag or a mug. The app only accesses the specific photos you capture or choose.

Reading coffee-bag labels

When you photograph a coffee bag, the app sends that photo to our server and to an AI provider (Anthropic) to read the printed label and pre-fill the coffee’s details for you (name, roaster, origin, tasting notes, and the like). The photo is used only to extract those details and return them to your app — it is not sold, not used for advertising, and not used to train AI models. You can skip this and type the details in yourself; the app works the same either way.

Social features (only if you opt in)

Coffee Notes includes an optional Buddies area. If you create a profile, we store your username, optional display name, and your buddy connections. Brews you mark public can be seen by the buddies you connect with; anything you keep private stays private to you. Account data is kept on our backend provider so it can power the buddies feed. Coffee Notes buddies are entirely separate from any other app.

Who we share with

We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. We rely on a small number of service providers to run the app: an AI provider (Anthropic) that reads coffee-bag label photos, and a backend/database host (Supabase) for the optional social features. They process data only to provide their service.

Moderation

Because buddies can see public posts, the app lets you report and block other users. We act on reports of objectionable content, typically within 24 hours, and may remove content or accounts that break our Terms.

Your choices

Children

Coffee Notes is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy; the “last updated” date above will change. Significant changes will be noted in the app.
